February 23, 2011 was a good day to be a patient at Inland Valley Medical Center, at least those were the sentiments expressed by Biridiana Meza of Lake Elsinore, the first patient who came in to be seen in the new emergency room. She was all smiles in her room in the ED, stating of her previous experiences, "Before there was a long wait to be seen, but now it seems faster . . . service was very good today."
"It's like Christmas in February," commented Edward Pillar, DO, chair of the Emergency Department for Southwest Healthcare System, who was on staff at the time. "This is the culmination of a lot of blood, sweat, and tears from a lot of people and a much needed morale lift for the staff and the community as a whole."
In other expansion news, the 11-bed Intensive Care Unit at Inland Valley opened successfully on the afternoon of February 22, as did the first phase of the ED at Rancho Springs on the morning of February 17.
