Maternity Tour

This fun and informative presentation gives expectant parents a free sneak preview of our maternity services. Nursing staff from Southwest Healthcare System will discuss preadmission procedures and childbirth options, our Labor/Delivery/ Recovery (LDR) rooms, selecting an obstetrician and family doctor, as well as nursing practices. In addition, we include a guided tour of the maternity unit, refreshments and door prizes. Free tours are offered at both Inland Valley and Rancho Springs Medical Centers.

Childbirth Preparation

Weeknight Series
A highly recommended course for first-time moms and their partners, this 4-week series meets once a week to teach expectant parents how to meet the challenges of childbirth. It covers a range of topics, including the stages and phases of labor and birth, hospital procedures, medication options, cesarean birth and postpartum adjustment. In addition, breathing strategies, comfort measures and relaxation techniques are taught and practiced to maximize your ability to cope with the physical, emotional and mental stress of the labor process. Due to the sensitive nature of this class, it is highly recommended that you do not bring children.

Breastfeeding Class

Taught by our certified lactation educator, this class helps moms develop the unique skills needed to make breastfeeding a successful and satisfying experience. Topics covered include advantages of breastfeeding and proper breastfeeding techniques. Dads or other support persons are encouraged and welcomed.

Sibling Class

Prepared Childbirth Refresher

This class is designed for parents who have experienced childbirth and want a refresher. It reviews the stages and phases of labor and birth with strong emphasis on breathing and relaxation exercises and use of comfort measures and provides information on sibling adjustment.

Newborn Care Class

This one-time class helps new parents develop the special skills and confidence necessary to care for a newborn. Diapering, bathing and comforting are a few subjects discussed and/or demonstrated. In addition, the educator will cover newborn hospital procedures and common newborn characteristics.
